FAQ

If you are concerned about your child’s sleep — at any age — know that you are not alone. Here are some of the most common parents ask before saying YES to sleep.

Are your services covered by insurance?

They should be, because sleep is that important to your health; however and unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that my services will be eligible for reimbursement.

Should you choose to use your HSA or FSA funds for my sleep services, I can provide you with a detailed invoice and other supporting documentation to submit to your insurance company if needed.

Can I breastfeed while I sleep train?

Absolutely! Whether you are breast or bottle feeding does not impact your child’s ability to learn healthy sleep skills. However, how often and when you feed your child may be impacting their ability to fall asleep independently.

I can assure you that sleeping well and a healthy nursing relationship are possible! Every family’s needs are different and we customize your child’s sleep plan to suit the needs of you and your child.

Can I co-sleep while I sleep train?

I do not endorse co-sleeping. My methods are aligned with the best practices as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, which state that co-sleeping is a safety concern.

When families are ready to stop co-sleeping because it is no longer working for everyone (you, your partner, and/or baby), that’s where I come in.

I can help your baby transition to his crib in his room if that is your goal. If you are not ready to put your baby in their own room or if it’s not an option due to space, I can definitely work with room sharing, but not bed-sharing.

Can I hire you even if I am not local?

Of course! I offer full consultations by phone or virtually through Zoom. If you would prefer the consultation in the comfort of your home, this is something I offer as well.

If you desire my services in person and live over an hour away, please inquire about my costs. With that said, I am always happy and eager to help a client in need, no matter where they live.

Does sleep training mean eliminating night feeds?

Not necessarily. Some babies up to 6 months of age still require a night feed, but that doesn’t mean babies can’t sleep through the night without a feed before 6 months. Every family’s needs are different and we customize your child’s sleep plan to suit the needs of you and your child.

Do you have a money back guarantee?

Trust in me, this is really going to work!

But I cannot guarantee my services because some of the results are out of my hands. Parents play a huge role in the success of the process. Both your commitment and follow-through are necessary for success. I will do everything in my power to get you to your goal, but I cannot force you to follow through. Of course, mistakes and misunderstandings happen from time to time, but these are easily corrected along the way as we stay in touch throughout the plan implementation. As long as you follow the customized advice I give you and truly want your child to sleep better, I will help you and your child reach the goals we outline in our initial meeting.

Do you only work with babies?

No, I work with children up to 6 years old. I actually encourage children over the age of 3 to be involved in the process to give them a sense of control, promote cooperation, and foster independence.

I offer a range of methods that are comprehensive, age-appropriate,and ease your child through the transition of learning to sleep while maintaining your active involvement.I tell you what to expect along the way and we work together, making adjustments as necessary.

The good news is that when done properly and consistently, there is less crying with each passing night. and once babies learn how to fall asleep on their own–which can happen pretty quickly–the crying goes away and success is achieved.

My baby has reflux, can you still help?

Yes, as long as her symptoms are controlled and managed. I have worked with my share of babies with reflux and have seen the same kind of success as babies without reflux.

Is this the "Cry-It-Out" Method?

No. I do not endorse the Cry It Out Method. Cry It Out refers to leaving a child in their room to cry, and ignoring them completely. This method assumes that crying is what teaches your child to sleep; and frankly, you do not need me for that

Do you offer a naps only package?

No, I do not have a nap package. Daytime sleeping problems are usually linked to some underlying nighttime issues and a full consultation may be necessary to determine the root cause and develop a plan for correction.

I am always happy to offer a Complimentary Sleep Evaluation of your child’s sleep habits.

What age should I start sleep training?

You’ll get a different answer to this question depending on who you ask.

There’s no one “sleep training age”—the answer will be different for every baby. One question you should be asking is am I, the parent, ready for sleep training? That’s right! Your baby of course needs to be ready-but you need to be ready, too. Sleep training requires a commitment from parents. Once you’ve decided that you’re ready for sleep training, first, get clearance from your pediatrician to rule out any potential health or medical factors that could be impacting your child’s sleep. Then consider your baby’s age. Most babies are not ready for “formal” sleep training until 4-5 months old, when they have developed a regular sleep-wake cycle. My program for “formal” sleep training begins at 4 months, but it is never too early to begin establishing healthy sleep habits.

What are your credentials?

I am a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant. I was personally trained and mentored by DanaObleman, one of the world’s leading experts in children’s sleep and the creator of The SleepSense™ Program. My methods are aligned with the best practices as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

What happens during a consultation?

During a consultation, we will look at your child’s current routine, sleep habits, and more. We will go over your customized Sleep Plan in-depth and discuss how to approach naps, bedtime, and night wakings.

I will make you the Sleep Expert, teaching you how sleep works and how to respond in a way that supports your child’s needs, but also encourages independent sleep. Together, we will discuss all of your questions and concerns to ensure you are confident with the sleep changes we will implement.

Do you support more than one child or multiples?

Of course! Whether you are a new parent, have five kids already have multiples, or have a child with special needs, I can help you teach your child healthy and independent sleep skills.

"My son was sleeping 12 hours a night, with no wake ups, after only two nights of sleep training. "Her advice, tips, and tricks work 100 % if you follow them step-by-step and listen to what she has to say."

"Best money we ever spent! Kala is so educated, organized, and a real pleasure to work with. "I would recommend. Sleep at Last to anyone!"

"If you are skeptical if sleep training will actually work, then you just aren’t ready for it! We were skeptical for many months before we were finally at our wits end and ready for a change. Working with Kayla was great and our little one at 10 months old, surprised not only us but Kayla with how quickly he adjusted after a couple of nights. We were literally in cruise control mode after the third night and naps he adjusted to well. Follow her advice and be committed to it 110%!"

“Sleep issues are a thing of the past in his household! We can’t thank Kala enough for helping us. Not only did she give us the tools we needed to teach our one-year-old son healthy sleep habits, but she also supported us every step of the way."

"Would 100% recommend Sleep at Last!!! Sleep training doesn’t have to be brutal; my 2-year-old was sleeping all night within 1 week! We struggled with him waking up multiple times throughout the night for 2 years. I wish I would have contacted her sooner; Kala is amazing & SO easy to work with!"

"Kala's services are WORTH EVERY PENNY. We reached out because our 5-month-old needed to be rocked, bounced, and fed to sleep. He would only nap for 30 minutes at a time and would wake frequently at night. I was EXHAUSTED. Our now 6-month-old is sleeping through the night and napping well during the day. I couldn't be more pleased with the process and the results. Kala is easy to work with and gives you all kinds of helpful resources to navigate sleep. What I appreciated the most during our 3 weeks together was that she helped me feel heard and understood when I shared concerns while also taking her time to explain the reasons behind her methods. 12/10 would definitely recommend."

"I don’t think there are enough words to describe how much Kala has changed our lives! Our 2.5 year old is FINALLY sleeping through the night in his own room!!! Something that we struggled with, Kala came in and saved us! I was always so hesitant to sleep train because my husband and I didn’t want to use the “cry it out” method. Kala’s method is genius."

"This sleep training experience with Kala has been amazing for our toddler and our family. We found the results to be extremely rewarding and valuable. Our son had very unhealthy sleep habits and used multiple sleep props to fall asleep at night. The program taught us what was healthy for a child his age and it helped us get our lives back on track. We finally have our nights back to ourselves! I have no idea how we were making it before the sleep program with Sleep at Last."

"Simply put, Kala’s method changed our lives. We started this journey as a family of 4 sleeping in the same room. Our 2-year-old slept in the middle of us and our 8-month-old was next to us and was still waking up several times during the night to eat. Two weeks later my husband and I had our room back and each kid is sleeping in their own room, sleeping through the night. It was worth the investment to have a happy well-rested family. Hiring Kala has been one of the best decisions we have made for our family."
